On 18 August 2025 Filey Museum officially became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) – Association Model, with a new charity number:- 1214566.
There are several advantages of becoming a CIO:-
- Limited Liability for Trustees – because of this, it may make it easier to recruit new trustees
- Simpler Administration – Charities Commission only, even if there is a commericial aspect of the charity
- Power to enter contracts and leases, and employ staff
- Preferred legal structure for grant providers
- Can reclaim Gift Aid
CIO Association Model means that people in the community can bec ome a member of the CIO. Becoming a member gives you:-
- Governance Control
- Voting Rights at the AGM on key decisions
- Appointment of Trustees
- Changes of the Constitution
- Can also be a Trustee
Duties of a CIO Member are to Further the Purpose of the CIO and Act in Good Faith.
