Welcome to Filey Museum…

Filey Museum reopens on Saturday 1st August 2026 and then every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 2pm-4pm

From Fishing to Farming to Seaside Fun – you’ll discover the charm, secrets and history of Filey here.

Tucked away in the ‘old town’, close to the 12th century St Oswald’s Church, the Museum was originally two single storey cottages with thatched roofs and are believed to be the oldest domestic buildings in Filey, as shown by the date 1696 above one of the doors. In the late 1960s, Filey Urban District Council invited the Filey Local History Society to establish a museum. The Museum opened in May 1971 with a great amount of community support, particularly the Filey Lions Club.

In 2024, the building (owned by Filey Town Council) underwent a major refurbishment, employing local tradesmen wherever possible.

In August 2025, Filey Museum charity became a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organsiation) with two objectives:

  1. To advance the education of the public in the history and culture of Filey and the surrounding area by providing and maintaining a museum and protecting the collection held within the museum.
  2. To promote community participation in heritage and cultural activities for the residents of Filey and the surrounding area.

 Our Mission

To become an accredited, award-winning institution that collects, preserves, and interprets the local heritage and culture of the region – focussing on ~ Fishing ~ Farming ~ Seaside Fun!

Open again Saturday 1st August
